According to The NPD Group, the number of gamers in the USA has declined 5% between 2011 and 2012, bringing the total now to 211,5 million people. Nevertheless, this is still a large quantity of gamers, once the country has a population of around 310 million people.
The report also shows data related to six segments, which include Core Gamers, Family+Kid Gamers, Avid PC Gamers and others. Four of them registered a fall in the research while two, on the other hand, increased: Mobile Gamers went from 13% to 22% and Digital Gamers from 12% to 16%. “While this study segments the gaming audience based on a number of key variables and attributes, looking across the total gaming audience we see a tremendous impact from mobile gaming, particularly on smartphones and tablets. Because of this, our next study, which will be released later this month, takes a deeper look into the area of mobile gaming”, said Anita Frazier, industry analyst from NPD.
The research started in March and had 8.488 completed surveys. Read it here. Let’s wait for the next publication that concerns mobile gaming!
