According to research from IBOPE, nearly a third of Brazil’s population – around 60 million people – owns a videogame. The most popular one is PlayStation 2, followed by PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. However, some things are missing such as the number of consoles in the country and Wii, which wasn’t mentioned.
An interesting information is how these products are sold: almost half of the gamers buy them with street vendors due to the low price and only 17% at specialized stores. Besides that, 20% said they bought more than ten games with street vendors in the
last six months while only 4% did the same at specialized stores. So you can have an idea, a pirate game costs around R$ 10 and an official one R$ 180.
The results were released on Friday, March 3oth, during GameWorld in São Paulo. Two thousand people from 142 cities were interviewed in February.
